Diagnosis

Diagnosis

There are several methods to diagnosing TMJ disorders. Our office uses a patient questionnaire to gain a better understanding of your overall health and history, as well as a physical examination which could include postural, cranial, dental, neurologic and tmj examination depending on your symptoms.

Technology helps us understand your jaw joint and its function.

Digital Radiography - We own an iCat, which provides us with a concise radiograph of the entire head, in a 3 dimensional model for detailed slices of any part of the head.

T-Scan - The T-Scan diagnostic technique involves the utilization of space age mylar which is connected to a computer. With this safe and easy device we can diagnosis malocclusion. Occlusion is basically the way a person’s teeth fit together and malocclusion or “bad bite” can cause a plethora of dental and/or systemic problems. Fractured teeth, periodontal disease, TMJ dysfunction, headaches, ear problems, and muscle spasms have all been attributed to malocclusion. The computer reads the intensity of the force each individual tooth generates and allows the clinician to adjust the “bite” so all the teeth will hit or occlude evenly.

“Without diagnosis, there can be no treatment” ~ Hippocrates
